Giselle is the quintessential Romantic ballet, and one of the greatest and most popular works in The Royal Ballet’s repertory. The title role, one of the most technically demanding and emotionally challenging in the classical canon for a Principal dancer, is Giselle, a peasant girl whose ghost returns after her death to protect her lover Count Albrecht from the vengeful Wilis – the spirits of beautiful brides who died before their wedding day. Giselle is a perfect showcase for the leading ballerinas and the corps of The Royal Ballet. Peter Wright’s atmospheric production with designs by John Macfarlane heightens the contrast between the human and supernatural worlds, while Adam’s sensitive score captures the peasants and the supernatural spirits, the poignant emotions and the betrayal and a love that transcends death. ... more info

Created by Frederick Ashton for a film in 1971, Tales of Beatrix Potter brings alive, with rich characterization and invention, the famous images and stories invented by Beatrix Potter. John Lanchbery’s music (incorporating mostly forgotten Victorian melodies) is utterly captivating, inspiring spirited playing from the Royal Ballet Sinfonia conducted by Paul Murphy. Christine Edzard’s designs conjure up a lost England of field mice and Berkshire black pigs, of foxgloves and shady groves. Swept up in the ballet’s childlike exuberance, the entire cast deliver outstanding portrayals of such colourful and well-loved characters as Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mr Jeremy Fisher, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, and the irrepressible Peter Rabbit. Ashton’s warm and witty, yet typically demanding choreography, creates a piece of charm and grace for all ages. ... more info
